1. I was a waitress
Yup! I used to wait tables to get me through uni with some extra spending money. I’ve worked in a big chain restaurant, and a small boutique restaurant. I know what’s expected of good service, but I also know what’s expected of good customers.
I feel like everyone should hold a job in the service industry at least once in their lives to know what it’s like having to always smile and be polite when your personal life is in flames. I feel like this would make others appreciate all that goes into it and be more generous with tips.
Side note: guys, please tip your waiter/waitress especially if the service you received was better than average, it’s the right thing to do.
2. I love TV shows about food
More accurately – I love The Food Network.
Fact: I have watched an entire season of The Next Food Network Star in one sitting. Back, to back, to back episodes. It takes about three hours (worth it).
I’ve watched basically every season of Master Chef, Top Chef, Top Chef Masters, Top Chef Just Desserts, Chopped, Cutthroat Kitchen… The list goes on. I don’t know if this makes me qualified to talk about food or qualified to be admitted to Food Network Rehab.
3. I am a dustbin
My mother used to say I have a hollow leg when it came to eating foods I loved. I once ate an entire packet of 24 chipolatas for breakfast. No shame. Like a puppy, I will keep eating the food in front of me until you take it away from me.
I’ll end up trying just about any food at least once. I like to think I’m an open minded person when it comes to flavour profiles and cuisines.
4. Food is at the center of (just about) everything I do
Although the above statement is true for me, I think it applies to a lot of us. When you’re celebrating, mourning, dating, sympathizing, or catching up, it’s often done over a drink or a meal. I love that the memory of food is so strong that sometimes certain meals can trigger memories.
5. I don’t have favourites
I really don’t. But here’s a list of direct channels to my heart: pizza, burgers, chicken wings, sushi, mac & cheese, coffee, wine, chocolate, cupcakes, donuts, brownies, cookies. That’s not a definitive list but it’s a start if you’re looking for gift ideas. 😉
That’s it! Quick and easy.
