Brace Yourselves, Fathers Day is Coming

PSA Fathers Day is around the corner. Did you know? It’s on Sunday June 19th! We’re also half way through the year which is… Interesting. Honestly where has 2016 gone? I guess that’s a conversation for another time.

I love my dad, we have a great relationship. To me, he’s a friend, mentor, great father, and an equally great ATM (just kidding, sorry dad). Long gone are the days where making a cute-sy card with stick figures of the two of us and a barely legible “I love you” scribbled on the inside will suffice as a present. I mean, I’m sure he’d be appreciative but I don’t think it would make it to the bookshelf in his room. Maybe he’d use the card as a coaster. Maybe.

Well, if you’re like me and panicking about what to get your dad for Fathers Day, remember that the way to anyones heart is through their stomach. I’ve also found that experiential gifts are often better than material gifts, at least when it comes to my dad. At the end of the day, parents often just want to spend time with their children whom they no longer see as often as they used to.

Whether you’re buying your Dad his favourite whiskey, a new piece of equipment for his favourite sport, or simply giving him a hug and telling him you love him, I’m sure he’ll appreciate any form of acknowledgement that let’s him know you remembered.

If you’re looking for a gift that the both of you can enjoy, I may have a solution for you.

The other day, the people at The Missing Slice reached out to me and asked me to review their cakes. They have a special offer on whole cakes for Fathers Day: each cake is Ksh 3,000 and they’ll deliver to your house for free!

The two cakes I tried were the Coffee Cake and the Chocolate Nude cake. Chocolate Nude was definitely my favourite cake, a combination of fudge and black forest.

The Coffee Cake

I love coffee but this coffee cake didn’t have enough of a coffee kick for me. I could faintly taste coffee in the sponge but I would have loved for the strong bold flavours to come through more. The cake itself is incredibly moist and I liked the cute decoration on top. Too bad my dad doesn’t play golf. 😉

The Chocolate Nude

What I really enjoyed about this cake was the mixture of rich chocolate and strawberry jam cut by the tart fresh strawberries. This cake is layered with cream, strawberries, and topped with chocolate fudge.

However you choose to celebrate this Fathers Day, I’m sure your dad will ultimately appreciate it.

I hope you’ve planned yourself accordingly for the weekend. Remember, buying a cake for dad is like buying a cake for yourself because dad can’t eat a whole cake on his own. Plus, who doesn’t love a celebratory cake? I would love to receive full cakes more than once a year on my birthday. If you’re interested in buying a cake from The Missing Slice, call them on 0738 007 422. View the different cakes they can bake on their website.

P.S. Dad, if you’re reading this, I ate all the cakes. My bad.

  1. If the cake is not available, I accept cash 😉

  2. Alexandra

That’s so funny that he actually read and commented LOL! I don’t know about cake because he wouldn’t touch it with a 10 Foot pole so maybe good ol’ whiskey might do the trick.
