#JDBBQ

This past weekend I attended the Jack Daniel’s Brothers of the Grill Barbecue aka the #JDBBQ with Jayson, Lyra, Kaluhi and lovers of good times. As you may already know I (among said bloggers and a guest chef) was judging the food vendors at the event. It may or may not be the closest I ever get to being on Master Chef.

Can’t say I’m mad about it.

Ten vendors were tasked with bringing their A game to the event and producing delicious barbecued meals for the guests in attendance. One dish or sauce, of course, had to be made with Jack Daniel’s. Again, not mad about it. Have you tried Jack Daniel’s barbecue sauce before?? Amazing. Take my word for it.

Here’s what went down on Saturday:

The event started at 3PM in the Arboretum and lasted long into the evening. Each ticket got the entrant five meal vouchers, five Jack Daniel’s cocktail vouchers and five water vouchers. If that didn’t last you all night, you were also able to buy additional vouchers to spend on food and drink. Let’s be honest, the 15 vouchers were a generous amount to be giving for the price paid (Ksh 2,000).

Fahreed Kimani was on the mic as the MC for the day and DJ Adrian was on the decks. You basically had all the fixings for a great time.

Here’s some of the delicious dishes we dug into at the event:

The winners for the day were as follows:

Brother’s of the Grill Champions (as voted by the judges)

1st place – Coco Jambo

2nd place – Privée (the chicken wings were OMG good)

People’s Choice Award:

1st place – Y Not BBQ

2nd place – Monikos Kitchen (they fed their goat milk and JD for a week before slaughtering it then marinated it in JD and finally slow roasted it for 48 hours while basting it with more JD marinade).

It was a super chilled out event that was a great way to enjoy a Saturday afternoon. If you missed out and want to catch the next JD event, be sure to keep an eye on their Facebook page.

For now, you can catch me in Club Bed guzzling hot chocolate and wearing fuzzy socks. Is it just me or has it cold to the BONE this week? Keep warm, winter is definitely coming.

I was staying in Kabete this past weekend and the cold is unbearable to say the least!! Monikos were smart to do that and kudos to them for winning 2nd place

  2. Sounds like a great time. A goat fed on Jack Daniels? I hope that it doesn’t make the animal feel weird anything…I’m all for well flavoured meat but it’s never that serious.

    • Yeah I don’t think the goat was getting drunk or anything, I hear you on the animal cruelty front. It was a good time though 🙂
