About Thyme and I have a special relationship and here’s why:

I first visited About Thyme when I was 16 years old with my family. It was this little unknown restaurant that we’d never been to but decided to give it a shot for my birthday dinner. My mother, father, brother and I ventured out of our comfort zone (Furusato) for this special occasion. My father in particular is an advocate for trying new things and I begrudgingly (in all my teenage angst) went with it.

January 25th was a good food day for me… At least so I thought. I went to Art Cafe for brunch and went to Jiko for dinner with my dad. My dad hadn’t tried out Nairobi Restaurant Week (NRW) yet and neither of us had been to Jiko so we were eager to try it out. I had high expectations for Jiko as it is a part of Tribe Hotel. Tribe is a high-end hotel that’s no stranger to big name politicians and celebrities such as Russell Peters and Akon. I imagined Jiko would be equally high-end in food, service, and overall experience.
