Treat Yoself Tuesday || City Park Market

I have been on a ROLL with #TreatYoselfTuesday! This past Tuesday, I visited City Park Market for the first time with my new photographer, Jacquie Mwai. If you don’t know Jacquie, you should. She’s a down to earth, easy to get along with woman who’s passionate about photography, particularly food […]

Treat Yoself Tuesday || Mambo Italia

This past Tuesday, I treated myself to a meal at Mambo Italia at Lavington Curve. As you may know, Mambo Italia recently had a makeover right before Nairobi Restaurant Week. They completely redid their outdoor patio and it’s looking really good! This renovation was just the face lift they needed to make […]

Urban Eatery || June 6, 2015 11:00 AM

My Dad recently got a job in Uganda that has him working in Kampala for the next year and a half. He left about a month ago but recently came back for the weekend and I, of course, had to see him. My dad knows me well so when we were planning on getting […]

Quick Eats: Ocean Basket || May 14, 2015 1:00PM

There were a few Ocean Basket pamphlets floating around the office on Thursday morning displaying some seriously delectable looking seafood. For those who don’t know, Ocean Basket, a South African restaurant chain, was all the rave late last year when the first branch opened in Kenya. Ocean Basket serves seafood in […]

Quick Eats — Zucchini || May 6, 2015 1:30PM

Spontaneity, it’s what makes life fun and occasionally makes for irresponsible decisions. I swear sometimes the thought “that’s for future Soni to worry about” crosses my mind. Usually, it’s somewhere after “sure, I’ll go out tonight” and before “shots shots shots!”. It’s the same spontaneity that assured me it was a good idea to get my eyebrows threaded over my lunch break.

About Thyme || Feb. 3, 2015 7:30PM

About Thyme and I have a special relationship and here’s why:

I first visited About Thyme when I was 16 years old with my family. It was this little unknown restaurant that we’d never been to but decided to give it a shot for my birthday dinner. My mother, father, brother and I ventured out of our comfort zone (Furusato) for this special occasion. My father in particular is an advocate for trying new things and I begrudgingly (in all my teenage angst) went with it.

Jiko || Jan. 25, 2015 7:30PM

January 25th was a good food day for me… At least so I thought. I went to Art Cafe for brunch and went to Jiko for dinner with my dad. My dad hadn’t tried out Nairobi Restaurant Week (NRW) yet and neither of us had been to Jiko so we were eager to try it out. I had high expectations for Jiko as it is a part of Tribe Hotel. Tribe is a high-end hotel that’s no stranger to big name politicians and celebrities such as Russell Peters and Akon. I imagined Jiko would be equally high-end in food, service, and overall experience.
